Enrolment

Bweeng N.S. welcomes any pupil who wishes to enrol. We cater for boys and girls from infants to 6th class.

How can I enrol my child?

  • An online application form is available to print. Please hand into school.

  • A child must be 4 years of age on the 1st of September of that school year in order to be included in Junior Infants.

  • Contact with the school for further information should be made through the secretary (Wednesdays and Thursdays) or by emailing the school at info@bweengnationalschool.ie

  • Parents are invited to an open evening to meet with the principal and staff in February to view the school.

  • Children are invited to an open afternoon in June to meet their teacher and to spend time with their new classmates.

  • Parents of special needs children are encouraged to discuss the child’s needs with the principal.

Policies

Absence from school:

  • All parents/guardians are requested to send a note to the teacher on Aladdin if their child has been absent from school. Each teacher keeps a record of these absences on file and reports to the principal when a child has been absent for a total of 13 days. Any absence of 20 days or greater is reported to the NEWB. A child is not allowed leave the school without written permission of the parent/guardian.

Will my child get homework?:

  • Homework is set  on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Homework is graded according to class level.

  • It is important that parents ensure their child completes homework including oral work each night.

  • Parents are requested to sign their child's homework journal daily.

School Curriculum​

  • We at Bweeng N.S. follow the curriculum as laid down by the Dept. of Education and Science for all primary schools. The curricular subjects are: English, Maths, Gaeilge, SESE, SPHE, Music/Arts/Drama, PE, Religion

Bullying

  • Bullying in any form is not acceptable. Anti-bullying policy is available below.

Helpful Info

Opening and Closing Times

  • School opens at 9.00am and closes at 2.40pm.

  • Infants start school at 9.00am and finish at 1.40pm

  • Junior infants go home at 12.00 for the first two weeks.

When do the children have their breaks?

  • Break times: Snack 11.00am - 11.10am

  • Lunch 12.30pm - 1.00pm

At what time is the secretary available?

  • School Secretary works part-time hours during the week

What should children bring for lunch?

  • We have been granted funding for the Hot Lunch Scheme by the Department and hot lunches are provided daily by Duhallow Community Food Services. Parents may order lunches for their children weekly online.

  • Children should also bring a healthy snack, fruit, etc and a drink. A small treat is allowed on Fridays. No chewing gum, nuts or lollipops allowed in school at any times.

Parent/Teacher Meetings:

  • Parent/Teacher meetings are held in November / early December each year. Parents who are unable to attend will be seen at a mutually agreed time.

  • If you need to meet a teacher at any other stage of the year please make an appointment.

Home-School Communication

  • School updates for parents are emailed to parents regularly

  • Notices will be posted on the website or social media pages

  • Text messages

  • Annual Parent Teacher Meetings

  • Written report sent home in June
